Basil Lemon – Growing Instructions
- Sow your seeds directly onto a moistened growing medium, which is 7-10cm deep.
- Lightly mist the seeds with water. A mucilaginous gel will form around the seed, which helps keep the seed to germinate.
- Place the seeded tray into a second tray without drainage holes. This will allow you to bottom water the tray
- Cover with another tray on top to stop light getting in. Then place a weight inside to encourage the roots to grow down and to help the seeds make good contact with the growing medium.
- Leave the seeds undisturbed for 4-5 days, there will be enough moisture in the tray for the seedlings. If more water is added, then it increases the chance of mould growing.
- By day 5-6 the seeds should be above 1cm tall and ready to be placed in a well-lit location
- When watering the seedlings, keep using the bottom tray.
- Harvest around 24 days or when the seedlings are 5-7cm tall. Cut the stems above the soil line with a knife or scissors.
