Description
Buckwheat – Growing Instructions
- Soak the seed for 12-24 hours in room temperature water
- Sow the seeds directly onto a moistened growing medium, which is 3-5cm deep.
- Leave the seeds on the surface of the soil uncovered and lightly mist the seeds with water.
- Place the seeded tray into a second tray without drainage holes. This will allow you to bottom water the tray
- Cover with another tray on top to stop light getting in. Then place a weight inside to encourage the roots to grow down and to help the seeds make good contact with the growing medium.
- Leave the seeds undisturbed for 2 days, there will be enough moisture in the tray for the seedlings. If more water is added, then it increases the chance of mould growing.
- On day 2-3, check the seeds to see if they’ve germinated. If the soil is dry, then water from the bottom.
- The seeds should be above 1cm tall and ready to be placed in a well-lit location for 5-10 days.
- When watering the seedlings, keep using the bottom tray.
- Harvest when the seedlings are 5cm tall. Cut the stems above the soil line with a knife or scissors.
